Epilepsy Surgery
Surgical treatment of epilepsy is based on the concept that removal, lesioning or disconnection of an abnormal brain area that generates seizures will result in complete cessation of, or reduction in, seizure activity. Several different techniques can be used to determine the focus or generator of the seizures. MRI imaging (structural), video EEG recordings (electrophysiology) and neuropsychological testing help to identify the seizure focus and functional areas.
